We are so pleased to announce the 2021 Lazy Lab Hunting Club Wildlife Photography Contest!
This will be the first of an annual competition which celebrates the power of photography in an effort to advance conservation and connect both photographers and viewers with wildlife and the outdoors. As we are sure you all agree, the most compelling nature images can help protect wildlife and the ecosystem in profound ways. Every person who enters not only honors themselves and their work, but ultimately helps support the conservation mission of the LLHC and its dedication to the preservation of habitats for all (humans and wildlife) to enjoy.
Photographers retain rights to their work. Those who choose to donate some of their images share joint ownership with LLHC, and further help us advance our conservation mission and advocacy.
A selection of the winning photographs and honorable mentions from the 2021 contest will be published on the LLHC website, on all social media conduits, and announced in the Quarter 4 LLHC E-newsletter. LLHC anticipates notifying winners by early October 2021.
Prizes:
Grand Prize: One winner receives the LLHC Roosevelt Award – a $75 Bass Pro Shops gift card and an invitation to accompany the LLHC Team on a hunting trip or fishing charter within the Continental United States at no cost to the winner (lodging, travel, and sustenance will be covered by LLHC).
Portfolio Prize: One winner receives a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
First Place: One winner receives a $25 Bass Pro Shops gift card.
Honorable Mentions: Each will receive a certificate of distinction and a LLHC vehicle decal.

- The 2021 Lazy Lab Hunting Club Wildlife Photography Contest is sponsored and administered by the Lazy Lab Hunting Club, a 501(c)(3) organization with a charitable mission of service to others and the environment. Its principle place of business is located at Six Mile, South Carolina.
- All entered photos are viewed by LLHC judges, and winners receive the recognition and prizes listed above.
- How to enter: Entries may be submitted as digital files or as digital prints, color prints, and/or black and white prints. Transparencies will not be accepted. Please submit all entries to matthew@lazylabhc.org.
- Contest entry period: The 2021 LLHC Wildlife Photography Contest opens at 1200 Pacific Standard Time on Saturday, 01MAY21, with the final date for submitting photos being 01OCT21.
- Photo entry information: All photos must have complete information attached, including their subjects, dates, locations and any digital adjustments made to the image. The judges use this information to help them select the winners. Not providing full information may disqualify your entry by the judges.

People in Nature: People enjoying the outdoors or connecting with nature and wildlife.
Mobile: Nature, wildlife and people outdoors photographed with a mobile device (phone or tablet).
- What photos to enter: We are looking for striking color and black-and-white images of nature-on land, in the air and beneath the water’s surface-from anywhere in the world. From backyard habitats to wild lands, these images may show animal behavior, portraits of wildlife in natural habitats, plant life, natural landscapes, or people interacting with nature. Do not include photographs of pets, domestic animals, captive animals at game farms or roadside zoos, or animals from such facilities photographed elsewhere with handler’s control. Such images will be disqualified. Captive animals photographed in major zoos, wildlife research facilities or rehabilitation centers are acceptable. Previously published photos may be entered; however, please include information on when and where the photos appeared. Winning photos from other competitions may also be entered, but include the name of the contests and the years they won. Such information is informative only and will not influence judges’ decisions.
- Ethics: We seek images obtained in the wild under natural conditions and in an ethical manner that places the welfare of wildlife above the photographer’s desire to obtain an image. Photographers should make every effort to avoid any action that might interfere with natural wildlife behavior. Entrants must not submit images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife or damage to the environment.
- Technical requirements: Camera-made digital images or scans of slides or prints must be uploaded as jpg files. Photos must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). Larger images are acceptable and may improve your photos’ quality. There is a maximum file size of 50 megabytes per image. Images should be in RGB or sRGB format. All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable changes include adjustments to color, contrast, brightness and sharpness; removal of dust and scratches; cropping; black-and-white conversions; and use of HDR (High Dynamic Range), where multiple exposures of the same scene are combined for a greater tonal range, and similar processes for extended depth of field. Such modifications must be disclosed. Changes that are not acceptable include photo composites (combination of two or more photos, not of the same scene); the addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in the photos; or the use of artistic digital filters and effects. Examples of artistic filters and effects are watercolor, neon glow, posterizing, stained glass, and others which do not show the scene as it occurred in nature.
